Do I need a second van?
You have the jobs. You have plenty of work. And yet you have to decline or postpone assignments you would actually have liked to take on.
Checklist - Do you need a second van?
You decline assignments every week or postpone them for several weeks.
You make extra trips because you can’t get everything done in one go. Every extra trip costs time and fuel you can’t invoice.
You want to hire staff or start a second team, but you don’t have the transport for it.
Calculate the opportunity cost
Ask yourself: what does waiting cost me? Suppose you leave an average of three assignments per week on the table due to lack of transport, and each assignment brings in €350. That’s €1,050 per week or €4,200 per month in missed revenue.
Fill in your own numbers. In most cases, what you’re already missing out on is higher than the monthly cost of a van through hire purchase.
When is it still too early?
Honest answer: if you can still easily take on all weekly assignments with your current van, the moment hasn’t arrived yet. A second van is an investment you only earn back once the need for extra capacity is truly there.
